KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Room and board rates at Western Michigan University will be going up 3 percent in the fall, costing a student living in the dorm with a 15 meal plan about $280 more than it did last year for a full academic year, or about $9600 total.
As high as that may seem, Western Michigan University officials say they rank about ninth out of state’s 15 public universities when it comes to the price of on-campus housing.
It may also explain why a lot of Kalamazoo Promise scholars choose to go to WMU, because they can live with their parents while they go to college.
The new rates were approved by trustees this week.
