KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The campaign opposing Tuesday’s 911 Consolidation vote will likely be slapped with fines for violations of both state and local election laws. Ironically it’s The Fraternal Order of Police that is being held responsible.
Reportedly the union is unhappy that some of their members may have to reapply for their jobs if the 911 call centers are brought together.
County Clerk Tim Snow says they failed to register as a committee and failed to identify the source of funding on radio ads, lawn signs and billboards.
Snow says the campaign reporting is something he monitors. The advertising violations are handled by state elections officials.
The surcharge request is endorsed by every major law enforcement and firefighting agency in the county and all local governmental units who have been working for over a year to put the effort together.
