KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The recovery of the wild turkey in the U.S. from near extinction is something that conservationists are proud to boast about.
In fact it’s created the need according to the DNR for a Spring Turkey Hunting season to control the population.
They have laid out a complicated system of zones and set limits on licenses to make sure they control the hunt. They estimate that about 30-thousand wild turkeys will have been harvested when the season ends at sunset on Sunday.
Oshtemo State Rep.Brandt Iden says hunters come from all over the Midwest to participate in Michigan’s hunt.
He says he is headed out into the woods himself to hunt. He will need to take a slicker and some serious boots with him because the forecast is for rain, and lots of it.
