KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — City commissioners in Kalamazoo have given the green light for plans to replace lead pipes to about 230 homes in Kalamazoo Township, as that community finishes up the third year of a major street repaving project in Eastwood.
It will be easier, cheaper and cleaner to do the work in coordination with the road work. The $848,000 project is being funded by the public utility system, which township residents also pay to use.
They plan to do the same as Kalamazoo city roads come under construction this year. They hope to get about 450 lead lines replaced this year.
There will still be more lead lines that will have to be removed in future years.
