KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Students from Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College and other youngsters rallied and marched on “May Day” in Kalamazoo.
Similar events were held in Battle Creek, Grand Rapids and four other Michigan cities. Protests were also held in over 200 locations nationwide opposing the immigration policies of the Trump Administration.
Protesters say they are tired of living in fear for themselves and their family members.
“The ugly policies that we’ve seen from our federal government in the last 100 days specifically affect the children of this city, too,” Christine Lewis with Michigan United told the crowd in Kalamazoo. “This community is undivided, and we will not stand for this erosion of our rights and dignities.”
National organizers have already held a “Day Without Immigrants” and are reportedly considering a “Week Without Immigrants” to demonstrate what they contributed to the economy.
