STURGIS (WKZO-AM/FM) — Sturgis firefighters were able to contain flames in a single-story home on Market Street to its living room and attic, but it will need a lot of work before it will be habitable again.
Fire trucks were dispatched at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. First-arriving crews found fire coming out of the wall in the living room and extending up into the attic. Getting at the flames involved ripping out the ceiling and cutting holes in the roof.
Smoke and water damage to the home is extensive, but once they opened it up, the fire was quickly knocked down.
Investigators think it may have been an electrical problem that sparked the blaze.
