DEARBORN (WKZO-AM/FM) — Gas prices are bucking the usual trend at this time of the year and going down as we head toward Memorial Day and the summer travel season, but it may be a short-lived bubble.
AAA Michigan reports the drop here was eight cents. The statewide average of $2.34 gallon. Prices are a dime or more lower at gas stations in west Michigan.
Trilby Lundberg’s national survey shows prices down a nickel in the past two weeks to $2.41 a gallon. Lundberg said a decline in crude oil prices drove gasoline prices lower, and they could just as easily go back up if crude prices lead the way.
Despite this week’s decline, prices this year are still about 12 to 14 cents higher than they were at this time last year.
GasBuddy.com said the early Monday average was $2.22 in Kalamazoo, $2.18 in Grand Rapids and $2.27 in Lansing.
