LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s a digital jungle out there, full of cyber predators that seem at times to have the upper hand, but the State of Michigan wants to expand a team of computer experts to fight back.
Currently the university based Cyber Civilian Corp, or MiC-3 has 52 members and responds when a government agency, a school or business is under imminent threat of a Hacker attack.
Oshtemo House Representative Brandt Iden has proposed legislation that would fold it into state government, conduct background checks, insure certification and set policy for when they are deployed.
Their goal is to have 200 volunteers ready to respond to cyber assaults.
It would be easy to call them a Cyber SWAT team, but organizers say it’s more accurate to compare them to volunteer firefighters.
