MUSKEGON COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State Police are slowly assembling the facts and compiling data on the death of Norton Shores Police Officer Jonathan Ginka, but there are no guarantees at the end of the process that they will definitively be able to say what happened.
They have learned from the data recorder on his squad car that the Kalamazoo Valley Community College police academy graduate was going about 46 mph when he left the roadway and that he did not take his foot off the gas and hit the brakes until just before he struck a tree. He had his seat belt engaged.
Tests that won’t be available for another month.
Ginka will be buried Tuesday.
