NEW YORK (WKZO-AM/FM) — Derek Jeter has taken his place among Yankee legends.
Sunday night, The New York Yankees held ceremonies to retire his number and dedicate the plaque that has been placed in Monument Park.
Jeter, who grew up in Kalamazoo dreaming of being the shortstop for the New York Yankees, is the 22nd Yankee to have his number retired and spent all 20 of his Major League Baseball seasons in New York.
The 14-time all-star helped guide the Yankees to seven World Series appearances and five world championships.
“The Captain” is the franchise’s all-time leader in hits, stolen bases and games played.
