DEARBORN (WKZO-AM/FM) — AAA says Michigan’s average gas price is higher to start the week.
Auto club spokesperson Susan Hiltz says it settled at $2.40.
“That’s six cents more than last week’s average and 13 cents more than at this time last year,” Hiltz said.
Oil prices are the primary driver.
“The price of a barrel of crude oil is continuing to hold steady,” Hiltz said. “There’s also a little bit more usage.”
Crude costs were climbing before a gas price spike last week.
Hiltz said pump prices may continue to rise with Memorial Day, the unofficial start of the summer driving season, about two weeks away.
The early Monday average was $2.39 in Kalamazoo, $2.40 in Lansing and $2.42 in Grand Rapids, according to GasBuddy.com.
