KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It took Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety firefighters about 10 minutes to put out an overnight house fire, but one person was arrested for interfering with their efforts.
Just after 2:00 a.m. Saturday a passerby called to report a structure fire in the 1400 block of North Rose Street. Officers located the residential structure that had heavy fire conditions on the rear half of the building.
KDPS says an initial dampening of the fire while officers hooked up to fire hydrants helped limit the damage to the structure. The fire was out in about 10 minutes with officers staying on scene to confirm there were no lingering hot-spots.
They say while conducting fire operations, a crowd formed at the structure and a male attempted to enter the residence against orders from firefighters on scene.
The Kalamazoo man was arrested for interfering with a firefighter and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
There was no reason released on why he attempted to enter the house.
