LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State health officials are reporting 50 new coronavirus outbreaks in schools and colleges in Michigan.
Among the college outbreaks: Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Northern Michigan University in Marquette, and Michigan Technological University in Houghton.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have pushed the statewide total to more than 216,800 cases since counting began in March, with more than 128,900 of recovered.
Additionally, there are now 7,724 deaths reported in total.
The health agency says the state’s test positivity rate now stands at nearly 10%. Two weeks ago, it was about 6%, up from below 3% back in June.
Hospitalizations are also trending upward in Michigan. Nearly 2,100 people are hospitalized statewide with a confirmed case of the virus.
