SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO AM/FM) – For the first time since last year’s Fourth of July disturbances, South Haven police had to close a beach, this time because three busloads of students from Kalamazoo College “Got out of control”
They arrived at South Beach with alcohol, loud music and some bad attitudes. South Haven Police got reinforcements from three neighboring townships and State Police before taking on the crowd.
The students were apparently participating in what is known at the prestigious private school as a “Day of Gracious Living” event.
Chief Natalie Thompson says four students were arrested for fighting and alcohol violations.
She says it’s clearly posted that they don’t allow alcohol on the beach, and there was also littering.
The school is reportedly reevaluating the activity, and there could be disciplinary action against some students.
