PAVILION TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM/FM) — A 52-year-old Athens man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Kalamazoo County’s Pavilion Township.
Undersheriff Pali Matyas said a pickup northbound on South 25th Street struck a westbound pickup on East P Avenue before 7 a.m.
“Both vehicles were pushed off into the northwest corner into a cornfield,” Matyas said.
The collision caused the westbound vehicle to roll. The driver was found dead at the scene.
Matyas said the northbound driver should have stopped, but a stop sign was obstructed.
“The wind storm we’ve experienced snapped a branch on a tree at that intersection,” Matyas said. “It’s a very unfortunate situation, in which the weather played a contributing part.”
Matyas says the northbound driver suffered minor injuries.
