DEARBORN (WKZO-AM/FM) — Gas prices are higher in Michigan than in most of the nation, and it could get worse before it gets better.
AAA says the average price in Michigan is about $2.49 a gallon, rising 9 cents in the last week. Trilby Lundberg’s national survey shows gas prices going in the opposite direction, dropping a half-cent in the last two weeks to $2.40.
Lundberg predicts that, with about a nine-cent gap between the price of crude and what gas stations are charging, prices will rise between now and Memorial Day weekend.
Both the state and national averages are about a dime higher than they were at this time last year, as the summer travel season officially begins.
Gas prices early Monday were $2.50 in Kalamazoo, $2.52 in Grand Rapids and $2.51 in Lansing, according to GasBuddy.com.
