SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — 27-year-old Tyler Smith has been charged with open murder and a felony firearm charge for allegedly shooting his step-dad to death at his mother’s home on Blue Star Highway north of South Haven Wednesday morning.
Dead is 58-year-old Robert Mark Hill. Smith appeared in a “suicide vest” during his video arraignment. Its a special garment they give to inmates who may want to hurt themselves.
The victim lived with the suspect’s mother, next to Farmhouse Glenn Antiques on Blue Star Highway in Casco Township, in Allegan County north of South Haven.
They have not released any information about a motive for the killing. Few other details have been released.
Bond was denied.
