BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man has been charged with three counts of attempted murder for allegedly beating, strangling and restraining his 44-year-old girlfriend at his home on Parish Street early Tuesday morning.
Thaddeus Markham, 47, has a history of domestic abuse and problems with the law and is listed in the sex offender registry for a 1996 rape. He was also charged with unlawful imprisonment and assault by strangulation.
The woman claims he struck her, hit her with the flat side of a machete, bound her hands with garbage bags and strangled her to unconsciousness.
She later managed to escape to a neighbor’s house and call police.
