KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation says travelers shouldn’t expect to be hassled by road construction projects in southwest Michigan over the Memorial Day weekend.
Statewide, 70 percent of projects will be suspended through early Tuesday. The rest will have lane restrictions, but no work will be taking place.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa said Interstate 94 drivers will need to be mindful of eastbound lane shifts through Bridgman and Watervliet and the traffic shift for the bridge rehabilitation project over the Paw Paw River.
“In each of those three locations you may see a slight slowdown, but traffic should move pretty smoothly through there,” Schirripa said.
Schirripa says the Blue Star Highway bridge over the Black River in South Haven will remain closed with a posted detour.
Work on M-43 in Kalamazoo begins Tuesday.
