KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A rash of drug overdose deaths in Kalamazoo this past week has one activist demanding the county use the money from the national opioid lawsuits, to save lives, and to do it now.
Gwen Hooker complained to the county board last night that it’s taking too long to put the money to work.
She says a couple of things that could be funded immediately are Narcan vending machines and an alert system to warn abusers that there are bad drugs in town.
The task force meets later this morning at 11:30 and member Jen Strebs says the alert system is already on their agenda. She defends their careful deliberations.
The task force is made up of elected officials, health experts, law enforcement, drug treatment experts and residents who have experienced drug addiction.
