PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage city council is scheduled to give final approval to their next fiscal year budget this evening.
City Manager Pat McGinnis says it will improve services without a need to raise the millage rate.
But he says there will be an increase in one bill that most city homeowners receive.
City council member Cris Burns says that is due mainly to increases coming from the city of Kalamazoo’s wastewater treatment plant.
Manager McGinnis says they will be relying on the city’s reserve fund to cover the additional costs they face right now because of this month’s tornado damage.
The new budget and the higher utility bills will take effect July 1st.
