KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Crews from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were kept busy Friday night battling a house fire on the city’s south side.
Around 8:30 p.m. officers received a call from a female coughing inside a residence that had smoke detectors activated in the background. Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch was able to trace the number to the 3900 block of Ash Street where officers located a residence with heavy flames.
After confirming that all residents were safely out of the house, KDPS says they utilized a defense posture on the building due to the amount of fire in the structure.
Firefighters were hindered in extinguishing the flames quickly due to construction/renovation of the home and a strong steady wind from the southwest.
It took KPDS an hour to get the fire under control from those conditions and an additional two hours beyond that put the hotspots within the building out.
There are no injuries from the fire.
