KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Wednesday is the first anniversary of the bicycle crash on North Westnedge Avenue in Cooper Township that killed five members of the Chain Gang Bicycle Club and injured four others.
It will be commemorated this week.
The club will finish the ride with a memorial run that will retrace the 28.5 mile route the group planned to take last year.
There will also be a shorter ride out to the location near the nature center where the ride came to an end. That group will then return to the staging area on Gull Road. The first wave going the full distance will take off at 6 p.m. and the rest a short time later.
Parking may be an issue, so they ask that you arrive at least a half hour early.
It’s a fundraiser to raise money for a permanent memorial at the scene of the crash.
They plan to meet at Bell’s Brewery in downtown Kalamazoo after the ride.
