KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo city commissioners will be asked tonight to approve a Western Michigan University study to monitor all the construction planned for downtown to gauge the impact on businesses located there.
Public Works director James Baker says the conversion to two-way streets will mean detours and congestion in the central city for the next few years.
Work on Michikal, West Main and Douglas will start things off.
The $115,000 study is designed to keep track of the impacts of the construction itself, and whether it has any beneficial results when it’s completed.
They hope the data will allow them to tweak the project, should traffic detours and delays have any serious detrimental impacts on businesses during construction.
The funding is coming from federal COVID-19 dollars.
