BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — A 27-year-old man from Battle Creek is dead after crash investigators say it appears he intentionally drove his car at a high rate of speed into a concrete retaining wall at the end of Battle Creek Avenue at Meachem Avenue early Tuesday.
It happened just before 8 a.m.
A crash reconstructionist said the driver must have been going over 75 mph down the residential street to do that kind of damage to the vehicle. The force of the impact shattered the concrete wall and trapped the man inside the vehicle, which burst into flames.
It will take an autopsy to positively identify the remains.
His name won’t be released until they verify his identity and have contacted his family.
