KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — The X-Train reappeared, this time on Kalamazoo’s west side Saturday night, and Kalamazoo Public Safety assembled another effort to break up the rolling alcohol and drug party, making multiple arrests, seizing a number of cars and issuing a number of citations.
Public safety began receiving noise complaints from homeowners about cars taking over a parking lot on Sage Street off West Main Street near Drake Road before midnight. Public Safety began targeting individual cars as the parade of vehicles left the Sage St. area.
Over the next few hours, officers handed out 20 citations and towed seven vehicles.
They recovered a stolen vehicle in the 1700 block of Union Street and had to chase down a suspect after he nearly ran over an officer near Ada and Westnedge. The car was pulled over on Elm Street a few blocks away and a 37-year-old man was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearms, felon in possession of a gun and drug charges after they found a .38-caliber handgun and controlled substances in the vehicle.
Several others were arrested for outstanding warrants, drug and traffic violations.
Public safety says they intend to ramp up enforcement targeting the X-train every time it resurfaces to deter the activity.
