MATTAWAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – One person is dead after police found their vehicle on fire early Sunday in Van Buren County.
Deputies responded overnight to the 25000 block of County Road 375 for a report of a vehicle fire. Mattawan Fire Department arrived on scene around 1:15 a.m. and reported there was a vehicle fully engulfed and there was a subject in the vehicle who was dead on their arrival.
Upon deputies arrival, they located an SUV which had collided with a tree. The vehicle was travelling westbound on County Road 375 when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle suffered what was described as “catastrophic damage” and caught fire.
The lone occupant was dead on arrival. It was not known if alcohol or drugs were involved.
The incident is still under investigation
