BERRIEN COUNTY (WKZO-AM/FM) — A pedestrian has been struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Galien, near the Indiana border.
Berrien County Shieriff’s deputies say it happened at at 10:24 p.m. Saturday at the Main Street crossing. Emergency responders discovered an unresponsive 21-year-old, now identidied as Christopher Herman.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
If operating normally, the Amtrak train travels through Galien at over 100 mph. The actual speed it was traveling Saturday night has not been released.
