KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Two men who allegedly went into the cigarette business, selling stolen smokes from a South Westnedge Avenue gas station, are in custody facing robbery charges.
They were reportedly captured on surveillance cameras at a Speedway early Monday, pushing the cashier out of the way and taking as many cartons of Newports as they could. They got away with $1,600 worth of cigarettes.
Monday night, an officer spotted one of the suspects walking along the 800 block of South Westnedge Avenue. That led to a motel down the street, where the second suspect walked out of his room while officers were waiting for a warrant to go in.
Investigators claim the pair had been selling the cigarettes to people in the area.
The suspects, 36 and 23, are both being held for unarmed robbery.
