PAW PAW (WKZO-AM/FM) — The Michigan State Police post in Paw Paw says drivers can expect to see more troopers on patrol over the extended Independence Day weekend.
Paw Paw Sgt. Brenda Casperson says MSP will ramp up traffic enforcement July 1 through July 4.
“You can expect increased patrols on the freeways and the state highways, with the focus being on seatbelt compliance, impaired driving, distracted driving and intersection safety,” Casperson said.
Historically, it’s a dangerous weekend for drivers.
“There’s increased traffic and motorists are generally in a hurry to get wherever they’re going,” Casperson said.
AAA is expecting nearly 1.5 million Michiganders to take a vacation this weekend. 1.3 million travelers will drive, the auto club said.
