BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — A Battle Creek woman had child abuse charges against her upgraded to the most serious she can face after a preliminary hearing revealed shocking allegations of neglect.
Megan Schug has been ordered to face trail for keeping her autistic four year old son locked in a closet with limited room to move, underfeeding and beating
Dr. Charles Yenger testified that the child was near death when Schug brought him into the Emergency Room. The boy was suffering from pressure sores, bruises and gangrenous toes. Because of malnutrition the pre-schooler had lost much of his hair. He said they were the kind of maladies that could only be accumulated over weeks or months of neglect and abuse.
After the testimony, the Prosecution requested that the charges against Schug be upgraded from second- to first-degree child abuse.
Her boyfriend, Isaac Miller, is also charged in the case and could also face the same charge which carries a maximum up to life.
