GRAND JUNCTION (WKZO AM/FM) — There was some excitement last evening near the Van Buren/Allegan County Line when a mini-tornado was spotted and recorded by a woman with a cell phone.
Calls flooded into Allegan County 911 reporting tornadoes near Grand Junction, and sirens were triggered but Ernie Ostuno, a Meterologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids says it wasn’t that kind of storm, and not a serious twister.
He says landspouts are formed the same way that water spouts are formed, without the big upper atmosphere rotation it takes for a real tornado.
He says they are weaker and usually last only a minute or two.
Although it was seen picking up some sort of debris, there were no reports of serious damage.
