KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Whitmer and U.S. Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt have announced the city of Kalamazoo is receiving $38-million from the federal government to reduce the risk of flooding.
The money will be used for the Building Resilience in Kalamazoo’s Downtown Transportation Network.
It will redesign the Downtown Kalamazoo Transportation Network, enhance stormwater infrastructure, and eliminate floodplain areas along Arcadia Creek.
It will stretch from Westnedge Avenue to Oliver Street and reroute the creek within Westnedge according to Kalamazoo public services director James Baker.
Work will start within the year.
