KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Walkers will take to the streets of Kalamazoo this Saturday to raise awareness and resources for programs addressing homelessness.
The annual five-kilometer walk, sponsored by Housing Resources Inc. (HRI), will start at Homer Stryker Field, travel along the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail to HRI’s Rickman House downtown, then finish back at the ballpark.
Organizers say along the way walkers will see signs with information about local housing needs and progress toward addressing them.
Michelle Davis, Executive Director of Housing Resources Inc. says, “The Walk To End Homelessness is our signature fundraising and awareness event.” This year’s fundraising goal is $110,000.
Last year alone, HRI provided over $2.2 million in financial assistance to households facing a housing crisis, eviction or homelessness, according to Davis. HRI also provided more than 3,500 households with coordinated assessment services to assure fair and equitable access to housing assistance.
Established in 1982 as a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, Housing Resources Inc. provides housing solutions for individuals and families during a housing crisis.
Onsite registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
Leashed dogs are also welcome.
