KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Western Michigan University men’s hockey team will head into the NCAA Tournament ranked as one of the top teams in the country.
The Broncos moved up two spots to No. 13 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll and jumped up one spot in the USCHO poll to No. 14. WMU has been ranked in every poll since October of 2021.
Western will square off with Michigan State in the opening round Friday, March 29 at 5:00 p.m.
Meantime, fans of Western Michigan University, Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan are having a tough time getting tickets.
All three schools are playing in the NCAA tournament regional in suburban St. Louis, Missouri at an arena with just 2,500 permanent seats and 3,148 capacity with standing room only tickets.
Attendance at the regional games since 2018 has averaged between 7,000 and 13,000.
The arena is the practice facility for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues.
