KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A group of students from Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College is working on ideas to keep top talent from leaving town.
The nine students are working with the Monroe-Brown Foundation to improve retention of young professionals in Kalamazoo. They’ve been gathering feedback from college students, people still in the community, and professionals who have left.
Among the concepts the group has developed so far are increasing downtown housing options, networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and creating a stronger connection between the social and professional scenes in Kalamazoo.
The group hopes to have solid recommendations by the end of the winter semester. The foundation has pledged up to $400,000 to invest in concepts that come out of the student project.
