KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Police and Sheriff’s deputies in the Kalamazoo area are slated to undergo training to better identify elder abuse.
It wasn’t a part of Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller training when he began his career three decades ago, but Fuller says there’s a growing need for education on the problem.
“We have recognized over the years that there are elderly being taken advantage of by their families, their loved ones, and their neighbors when it comes to their finances,” Fuller said. “We’re brining in a national expert to train law enforcement.”
The National Council on Aging claims one in 10 people over the age of 60 are victims of abuse.
