KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Big changes are coming in Michigan for medical marijuana users and suppliers. A pair of forums on how Kalamazoo will address those changes will be held at city hall this Wednesday and Thursday.
They are being hosted by the city attorney’s office. They are designed to not only inform the public on what the city has tentatively planned, but to receive input on how that plan may be accommodated to better serve the public.
There will be a presentation, then citizens will be allowed to view the exhibits, individually ask questions of officials in the room and make comments.
City Attorney Clyde Robinson is proposing to limit the number of dispensaries to seven and use a lottery to determine who will get the permits. He is also recommending all the other businesses that will be licensed by the state to supply the dispensaries, including growers, transporters and testing labs be allowed to locate in the city if they choose.
The first forum will be held Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The second will be held from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
