EAST LANSING, MI — A report in the Detroit Free Press says Brenda Tracy, a prominent rape survivor who was at the center of the Mel Tucker firing as MSU football coach, is planning to sue Michigan State University and Tucker.
The Free Press report says Tracy and her nonprofit have filed intent-to-sue notices in the state’s Court of Claims, which are a mandatory precursor to filing a lawsuit against a government agency.
She is seeking damages exceeding $75 million – $50 million for herself and $25 million for her nonprofit – for a range of claims, including breach of contract, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy, according to the Freep.
Michigan State fired Tucker as football coach after an external investigation concluded he had sexually harassed Tracy, which included a phone sex incident between the two.
