GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The two tornadoes that were confirmed to have hit Michigan early Wednesday morning were extremely rare according to National Weather Service meteorologist-in-charge Bruce Smith in Grand Rapids.
The first hit Calhoun County near Marshall and was a strong EF1, and the other hit Grand Blanc near Flint and was an EF2.
Before this week, the only other tornadoes to hit Michigan in February were four in 2017 that hit in Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph counties and one in 1974 that hit Sumpter Township near Detroit.
