KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety says a fire in the 700 block of Staples Avenue appears to be suspicious.
The occupants of the home were not there and a passerby called in the fire just before 7:00 p.m. Monday. By the time the first responders arrived, the garage was fully engulfed in flames and the fire had begun to spread to the home.
They say the garage is a total loss and the kitchen in the back of the home is damaged beyond repair. There is also smoke and water damage throughout the two-story structure.
Some of the flames reached the attic before the fire was brought under control.
They aren’t saying why it’s suspicious, but the fire marshall will investigate.
