KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With the forecast calling for more temperatures in the 50s, and even 60s this week and next, it’s been a tough time to be the owner of a downhill skiing complex in southern Michigan, or to own a snow plowing business. How about a snowmobile dealership?
It’s been a relief to many, including municipal snow plowing operations.
City of Kalamazoo utilities director James Baker says he has had his crews doing things they normally do in other times of the year. He says there are always potholes to fill.
Baker says the nicer weather doesn’t save a lot of money for them, the crews work regardless of the weather but they do save on materials.
The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County contracts out some of their snow plowing to private operators, and the savings are more substantial for their operation.
Some forecasts are predicting a high just over 70 on Tuesday, primary election day.
