QUINCY, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – Following concerns over mysterious health conditions among some Quincy Community Schools students, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency will be developing an online, confidential survey to collect information from Quincy school families.
BHSJCHA Health Officer Rebecca Burns says they would like all families to complete the survey, whether or not their children are showing symptoms of illness.
Quincy Community Schools Superintendent Marc Kramer says the district contacted the Community Health Agency after parents complained that students are experiencing seizures, tremors, and other neurological symptoms.
According to Kramer, a specific concern has been expressed about the water quality in the district. Concerns have also been raised about the air quality in district facilities.
Kramer points out in a letter sent to parents last weekend that the school district’s biggest concern is the health and safety of staff and students. He says many factors must be considered within the investigation, including things outside the school environment.
Monday the school district started providing bottled water for students and staff, and the Village of Quincy tested the water supply Thursday.
Kramer says he sought information and bids Wednesday from the few specialized firms to test the air quality in the schools.
