BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – For the second time within a week, Battle Creek firefighters had to put out a fire in an unoccupied home on Upton Avenue on Monday morning.
The Battle Creek Fire Department says the fire was reported at 3:52 a.m. and there was a fire in the basement when crews arrived.
Due to the conditions of the structure from another fire last Wednesday, February 14, crews took a defensive approach to extinguish the latest fire.
The fire was contained to the basement and first floor. Damages were estimated at $10,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal. No injuries were reported.
