With clean-up completed, EPA looking to remove Kalamazoo site from its Superfund list

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Clean-up work for two contaminated sites on six acres along Davis Creek, which feeds into the Kalamazoo River, has been completed.

The Environmental Protection Agency made the announced last week. The site previously had been used as a dumping ground for waste products from the manufacture of paper goods. It being added to the EPA’s Superfund National Priorities List in 1990.

With the cleanup work completed, the EPA is proposing removing that area from the Superfund list, with monitoring and periodic maintenance continuing.

While the EPA says the work has been completed, the removal of the Superfund designation is open to public review. People can comment online or by emailing cibulskis.karen@epa.gov. The comment period will end March 18.
