KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Investigators say they The Portage man with no previous record of violence, who is accused of killing two people in two counties, will undergo a psychiatric exam before the prosecution proceeds.
Apparently everyone involved wants to know if Zachary Patten is competent to aid in his own defense before they proceed with the prosecution.
He is charged with shooting Graciela Portillo-Esparza in a Kalamazoo trailer park, and then driving to Constantine and shooting Shane Richardson after getting in an altercation with him.
It mean’s Patten’s preliminary hearing, which had been set in St. Joseph County Court for next Tuesday has been postponed for now.
