KALAMAOZO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While Republicans will be holding county conventions around Michigan tonight to pick delegates for next month’s state convention, two separate groups, both claiming to be the real Kalamazoo County Republican Party, are scheduled to hold their conventions tonight.
The two conventions in Kalamazoo County are the result of an ongoing feud between two wings of the local Republican party headed by Kelly Sackett and Rodney Halcomb. Both claim to be the real local GOP chairperson. Last September Sackett was voted out as chair and replaced by Halcomb. Sackett told Bridge Michigan the vote was “fake.”
One convention tonight will be held at the 12th Street Baptist Church in Kalamazoo with the other convention at a community center in Scotts.
Republicans from across the state will meet for their March 2 caucus convention in Detroit to select a candidate to run for president, but also Michigan’s representatives on the Republican National Committee.
