TEKONSHA, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Village of Tekonsha is under a Boil Water Alert after coliform bacteria was detected in the village’s water supply.
Village Water and Wastewater Operator Gary White issued the alert on Wednesday.
He says they routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. They took two samples during February with one of the samples coming back positive.
Repeat testing confirmed the presence of coliform bacteria.
Residents are being told not to drink the water without boiling it first and to use boiled or bottled water until further notice.
The village is temporarily chlorinating the water and flushing the distribution system.
If two samples taken 24 hours apart come back negative then the Boil Water Advisory will be lifted. Officials anticipate resolving the problem within three to seven days.
