KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – On the day that Jennifer Crumbley was convicted of manslaughter for being the neglectful mother of the young gunman who killed four at Michigan’s Oxford High School, the Kalamazoo County board approved new spending to prevent killings from happening here.
The county had over half of the million in COVID-19 funding they allocated two years ago for violence intervention, and last night chair Tami Rae proposed they spend it, the largest allocation going to support the Kalamazoo Foundation’s Blueprint for Peace.
She says they have also built in a provision that they get quarterly updates on how the money is being spent.
The Blueprint for Peace is a comprehensive battle plan to coordinate and fund the efforts of local non profits that are working to prevent gun violence.
The county spending recommendation came from the Commissions Gun Prevention subcommittee.
The public can now view online the first edition of the Blueprint for Peace.
