KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An independent review will be held after a an inmate died while being processed into the Kalamazoo County Jail early Wednesday morning.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office say the individual was arrested by Portage Public Safety and taken to the jail on charges related to domestic violence. While undergoing the intake procedure, the man experienced a medical emergency, leading to unresponsiveness.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called and life-saving measures initiated. The man was transported to Bronson Hospital, where he later died.
The Sheriff’s Office has requested an independent review of the death by the Michigan Sheriff’s Association. The man’s name has not yet been released.
